Legend Car Maintenance Checklist

Legend Car Maintenance Checklist

Keep It Tight, Keep It Fast — Your Pre-Race Guide from Impel Motorsports

Whether you’re gunning for a podium or just chasing personal bests, Legend Car performance starts with preparation. A well-maintained car isn’t just faster — it’s safer and more consistent across every lap.

At Impel Motorsports, we work with racers at every level and know what it takes to stay race-day ready. Use this Legend Car Maintenance Checklist before every race to avoid surprises and show up ready to compete.

Suspension & Steering

Check all heim joints and rod ends for play or wear

Inspect ball joints and replace if there's slop

Tighten all suspension bolts and torque to spec

Check bump steer and alignment settings

Grease any pivot points or components as needed

Pro Tip: Keep spare rod ends and bushings in your trailer — they’re small, but race-critical.

Drivetrain & Gears

Check chain tension and condition (replace if worn or kinked)

Inspect clutch (check for fade, slippage, or wear)

Verify rear end is aligned and tight

Don’t forget: Bring spare gears and spacers — gear swaps can make or break a race depending on the track.

Wheels, Tires & Brakes

Torque all lug nuts (typically 60–70 ft-lbs)

Check tire pressure and adjust per track conditions

Inspect for flat spots, cuts, or punctures

Bleed brakes and top off fluid

Inspect pads and rotors for wear or cracks

Need tires or brake parts? Check out our Legend Car Components.

Engine & Cooling

Check oil level and condition (change if needed)

Check spark plugs and replace if fouled or worn

Inspect plug wires and coil connections

Top off coolant and inspect hoses for leaks

Check throttle linkage for smooth operation and full return

Running a hot track? Consider carrying a spare fan or water pump belt — and check radiator mounting.

Electrical System

Charge battery fully before race day

Check all grounds and connections (especially ignition)

Verify kill switch and starter button function

Test transponder if your track uses one

Avoid “no-start” heartbreaks — battery issues are one of the most common race-day problems.

Safety Equipment

Inspect belts for fraying, expiration, or loose hardware

Check seat mounting and brackets

Verify helmet, suit, neck restraint, gloves, and shoes

Secure fire extinguisher and verify charge (if equipped)

Check fuel cell for leaks and proper venting

Safety gear saves lives — and most tracks won’t let you race without it. Double-check everything.

Misc. Must-Dos

Walk around the car and check for any loose panels or missing fasteners

Secure hood pins and window nets

Top off race fuel and bring extra

Load spare parts, tires, fluids, and tools

Bring setup sheet notebook to log tire pressures, gear ratios, and track conditions

Track conditions change fast — having notes from previous races helps with fast adjustments.
